ULI San Antonio Hires Cody Shown as Senior Manager
Cody Shown joins ULI San Antonio Staff as Senior Manager
June 28, 2022
It has truly been a pleasure to serve as your ULI-San Antonio Chair for the past two years. When I took the helm from Madison Smith it was July 1, 2020 and we were all working from home trying to figure out what the “new normal” was going to look like. We had several starts and stops of planned events and many budget recasts with Cara DeAnda’s (our Treasurer) help. It took us a while to get our footing on how we could survive the pandemic. I remember the outdoor event at Legacy Park that showed all the pent-up demand for folks wanting to gather again.
Thankfully, as you all know and many of you played a roll, we have since hit all-time highs in sponsorships and membership growth. Our sponsorship team with Erin Bley and Johnny Johnston has been top-notch and we appreciate their diligence and persistence. The COVID pause also allowed us to realign parts of the organization so that we could empower more of our super-powered volunteers. After conversations with other ULI chapters we spun the idea of Local Member Councils (LMCs) to get more folks involved and aligned with the ULI mission. The first cohort of LMCs has done a tremendous job and I look forward to the new legacy created by LMCs. Thank you to all those who stepped up into leadership roles during my tenure. I always looked around the room in Management Committee meetings and felt so blessed to have the crème of the crop working alongside me. I also look forward to more folks, like yourself, taking an active role with ULI and finding yourself as future committee chairs and district chairs.
It is because of your engagement that we continue to grow and prosper. Janis and Terri have done an excellent job securing high-quality programming and filling up our calendars with opportunities to learn, grow and meet other professionals in the real estate industry. I am proud of the team we have assembled and I am even more proud to have been a part of growing our staff by adding another full-time staff member, Cody Shown. Cody in a short timeframe has grabbed the ball and started to run with it. ULI-San Antonio now has more capacity to make a difference in our community and to shepherd volunteers’ ideas into action. I am grateful for all of staff’s hard work and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to lead you and this organization.
We have an extremely bright future ahead. Corrina Green will take over the Chair responsibilities in July, and honestly, she already has done a ton of work and been involved with many decisions. She brings a keen perspective serving time on both the public and private sectors and wants to be part of transforming San Antonio. Please maintain (or better yet, increase) your commitment to ULI – it has truly prospered and is now hailed as one of the best chapters in the United States. Based on several different metrics we lead our chapter cohort and are growing faster than any other US city. This success only happened because of you and your companies.
Of course, I will stay involved with ULI and can always be a resource for you. As San Antonio continues to attract talent and grow, we need to ensure that we are doing it the right way. We need to stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and industry expertise. Working together, we can shape the future of our beloved city and create a thriving community.
Thank you to all of you.
Saludos,
Omar
