ULI's Building Healthy Places Book Club is designed to spark thought and conversation around health, social equity, and real estate.
Our next title is Right of Way: Race, Class, and the Silent Epidemic of Pedestrian Deaths in America. Author Angie Schmitt explains how pedestrian deaths are not unavoidable “accidents.” They don’t happen because of jaywalking or distracted walking. They are predictable, occurring in stark geographic patterns that tell a story about systemic inequality. These deaths are often the forgotten faces of an increasingly urgent public-health crisis that we have the tools, but not the will, to solve.
Participation is free and requires registration. All registered participants receive a suggested reading schedule, weekly email thought starters, and a link to attend three virtual meetups.
For Right of Way we will host three live meetups:
- December 16, 2020: Winter Kick Off: Right of Way
- January 13, 2021: Mid-Book Discussion Groups moderated by Charles T. Brown
- February 3, 2021: Talk with Author Angie Schmitt
Virtual meetups take place on Zoom and run from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm EDT. Weekly thought starters curated by Charles T. Brown will be sent via email following the Winter Kick Off. Members and non-members may register to participate throughout the winter reading period running through February 3, 2021.
