    These tours are designed to provide an opportunity for owners, developers and real estate practitioners to directly interact with some of San Antonio's best bicycling/walking trail systems, the people who created them and learn how these awesome trails:

    RIDE #2: Salado Creek Greenway North from McAllister Park Greenway Trailhead thru the Walker Ranch Park to Hardberger Park + Voelker Homestead
     
    WHERE: McAllister Park Trailhead, Buckhorn Rd. San Antonio, TX 78247 (29°33'11.4"N 98°26'40.2"W)
    DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: Turn right off of Wurzbach Parkway West onto Buckhorn Road, the trailhead will be on your left.
     
    In 2008, one of the first trails in the San Antonio Howard W. Peak Greenway Network was built along Salado Creek, from the Voelker Homestead to Huebner Road. Today, the Northern Salado Creek Greenway comprises 20 miles of greenway trails, connecting some of San Antonio’s most beautiful natural, historic, and urban parks. On this 14.5-mile ride we will visit McAllister, Walker Ranch, and Hardberger Parks, discussing the importance of accessibility on trails and highlighting new, exciting trail opportunities and plans along the way.

    TRAIL TOUR RIDE LEADERS:

    Jim Bailey
    Principal, Alamo Architects
    Founder, Activate SA
     
    Jim leads the housing studio at Alamo Architects in San Antonio and has been responsible for the design and construction of over 13,000 housing units. With his deep roots in the community, broad experience, and intimate familiarity with the geospatial and socioeconomic makeup of the city, Jim is often called upon to help navigate the intersection of design and public policy. He has played a key role in many major local planning efforts and served on various related boards, commissions, and committees and initiated a number of community-driven infrastructure improvement initiatives over the last quarter century. He served on Mayor Ron Nirenberg’s five-member Housing Policy Task Force to develop the Housing Policy Framework. In 2019, he founded ActivateSA: a guerrilla planning initiative and think tank whose mission is to build a robust and connected multimodal transportation system for San Antonio through advocacy and facilitation of intergovernmental collaboration. He is currently serving on the steering committee for the development of San Antonio’s 20-year, multi-billion-dollar Strategic Housing Implementation Plan. Jim is driven by the belief that active listening and deep collaboration are the foundation of a future San Antonio that is just and sustainable.
     
    David Bemporad
    Trails & Transportation Planner
    Great Springs Project

    David Bemporad is the Trails and Transportation Planner for the Great Springs Project, working to plan, design, and implement publicly accessible cycling and pedestrian trails throughout the San Antonio region. In this role, he served as the administrator for ActivateSA, a nonprofit working to connect San Antonio with a comprehensive, safe, and equitably designed pedestrian and cycling network. David is a 2021 Master in Urban Planning graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, a 2020 Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Summer
     Fellow, a 2017 Bill Archer Fellow, and a born-and-raised San Antonian.

    Joey Pawlik
    Active Transportation Planner
    Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization

    Joey Pawlik is the Active Transportation Planner with the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO). He is a native of San Antonio who graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Sociology, minor in Urban Planning. Prior to joining the AAMPO, Joey was the Constituent Services and Community Outreach Manager for State Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, Texas House District 120. Joey is passionate about bicycle and pedestrian safety having been a bicyclist and bicycle commuter most of his life. He helps advance the Alamo Area’s active transportation planning goals and helps to contribute to road safety for all users. Joey also supports the MPO’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Mobility Advisory Committees, as well as the MPO’s Active Transportation Program. Joey is also enrolled in the UTSA MS Urban & Regional Planning Program, Co-Chair of the ULI-San Antonio Mobility Local Member Council, a member of the ActivateSA board of directors, and a member of the VIA Transit Community Council.

    best use practices for large metropolitan areas; Internationally planned neighborhood street plans, city designs for business districts, smart growth design for housing, and hosted public meetings for economic development.

    Having represented clients in over $800 million in corporate, financial, and real estate transactions, Garry brings the Great Springs Project (GSP) a unique combination of business development savvy, real estate law expertise, government service, and a longstanding commitment to the conservation of Texas’ natural resources. A former rural County Judge, County Attorney, and corporate counsel, Garry’s legal expertise include business and real estate transactions, water rights, business development, private securities offerings, acquisition of venture capital, and contract negotiations. Prior to joining GSP, Garry served as General Counsel and Legislative Director of the Texas Association of Counties. Garry has also previously served as Board Chairman of the Hill Country Alliance, the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, and the Southwest Area Regional Transit District. An avid river guide, Garry cares deeply about our beautiful hill country and preserving it for generations to come.

    Trent Tunks is an Architect at Alamo Architects where he works primarily on housing, adaptive reuse, planning, and urban design projects. Additionally, he is one of the founding board members of ActivateSA. Across all of his work, Trent brings together his experience as both a designer and wheelchair user to advocate for a more equitable, accessible, and sustainable built environment. Trent holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture and is a graduate of the B.S. in Architecture program at UTSA. Trent will discuss accessibility and inclusive design at Hardberger Park.
