For almost 10 years, the ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance has been a global catalyst for change, taking meaningful, immediate, and measurable actions to generate real estate solutions that improve the environment through energy efficiency while demonstrating the correlation with increased property values.
Real estate owners, investors, and developers have joined Greenprint to focus on reducing the carbon footprint of their portfolios, and work to achieve its carbon-reduction goals through education and action. This webinar will provide an overview of Greenprint, its value, its membership, and its impact – so that the real estate market can learn and understand the opportunity of getting involved and being a leader in the sustainability space.
Marta Schantz (moderator), Senior Vice President, Urban Land Institute
Marta Schantz is the Senior Vice President for the Greenprint Center for Building Performance at the Urban Land Institute. She brings deep experience in the real estate sustainability market to lead and collaborate across organizations and stakeholders to achieve program goals and successes. Marta has strengths in project management and market analysis, concentrated in both qualitative and quantitative energy and policy analysis. She has knowledge in sustainability, energy efficiency, and large-scale program management. Prior to her time at ULI, Marta worked at Waypoint Energy providing energy efficiency services to utilities and real estate, and before that worked at Booz Allen Hamilton on their federal energy consulting team.
Marta is a LEED Green Associate and a Fitwel Ambassador. She holds a B.S. in Biological Engineering with a minor in Science Policy from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ron Weidner, Co-founder and CEO, emPower
A visionary and serial entrepreneur, Ron brings more than 30 years of experience in building and managing large scale cross-border lending, investment and asset management platforms. Prior to founding emPower, Ron was the Global Chief Investment Officer at Allianz, overseeing the restructuring and expansion of its $30 billion real estate investment and lending platforms. During his tenure with Allianz, he founded Greenprint, a non-profit initiative led by leading financial institutions and investors committed to tracking, benchmarking and improving the environmental and carbon performance of their real estate portfolios. Today, Greenprint tracks over 1 billion square feet of properties in over 50 countries.
Prior to joining Allianz, he was the co-founder and managing partner of WestWind Capital Partners, a real estate private equity firm which invested in and managed over $ 5 billion in commercial assets in major gateway cities in the U.S. and Europe prior to being sold in 2006. Earlier in his career, Ron held various senior positions with Hypovereinsbank and Commerzbank building and overseeing corporate and real estate lending platforms in the U.S.
Laura Craft, Head of Global Sustainability, Heitman
Laura is Heitman’s Head of Global Sustainability. Heitman is a real estate investment manager with ~$39 billion in real estate private equity, debt and securities investments across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. She leads the firms Environmental, Social, and Governance platform and interacts across business lines and regions to establish systematic approaches to address and implement ESG principals in the investment process. Laura is currently the co-chair of PREA’s Innovation Affinity Group and sits on ULI Greenprint’s Performance Committee.
Prior to joining Heitman, she spent 10 years at LaSalle Investment Management (~$60B AUM), where she began in LaSalle’s valuation and asset management groups and transitioned to develop the firm’s Global Sustainability Platform. Through her tenure, she interacted across business lines and regions to establish systematic approaches to address and implement ESG principals. Laura’s early career experience includes market data coverage at real estate brokerage company, Grubb & Ellis | Barkley Fraser, as well as Building Information Modeling (BIM) research and development at SmartBIM. Laura received a double BA in Real Estate and Business Management from University of Georgia, where she was one of 30 UGA students to also earn a Leonard Leadership Scholar certification.
Andy Bush, Principal, Morgan Creek Ventures
Andrew Bush is the founder and Managing Partner of Morgan Creek Ventures, a real estate development and consulting group based in Boulder, Colorado. Over the past decade, Morgan Creek Ventures has developed a variety of sustainable real estate projects with a focus on creative office and residential infill opportunities. Their projects have received LEED Silver, Gold and Platinum level certifications and have included leading technologies in building management systems, green roofs, solar installations and water treatment.
Andy’s current focus is on developing replicable models for commercial developers in the “Net Zero” building arena. He was educated at the University of Wisconsin in Urban Planning and has served as a trustee and board member for a number of other real estate holding companies, redevelopment associations and family foundations. He is a regular speaker on the topic of urban development and sustainability issues.
