ULI/SA LEADER SPOTLIGHT: Rachel Brehm, Centro San Antonio

RACHEL BREHM
Director of Community and Governmental Relations, Centro San Antonio
ULI/SA Communications Committee Co-Chair

What excites you about San Antonio’s future?
We are a retropolitan city – a big city with a small town feel.   It has been amazing to see the development of our city since moving here in 2006.  The development of our urban core and investment from the 2017 bond program will bring even more exciting momentum to our downtown – and as an extension, our city as a whole.  It will be exciting to watch the trajectory that investments such as this will bring to our city.

How has ULI helped you in your career development?
ULI has helped me gain a deeper perspective on the many initiatives our city faces. It has been an amazing resource and educational tool for me to use in my professional career.

What is the favorite part about working for Centro San Antonio?
Centro San Antonio is the sole non-profit who is focused on downtown.  I truly enjoy the various facets that Centro plays a vital role in.  From our Clean and Safe program (which includes two Haven for Hope Outreach coordinator positions focused solely on downtown) to advocating for strategic and smart developments in our urban core; to place-making and activating our downtown — there is never a dull moment!

Which two organizations outside your own do you know the most people at and why?
I am the current President of the Hemisfair Coalition, and as such have the honored privilege of working closely with the staff at both Hemisfair and the Hemisfair Conservancy. Prior to joining Centro San Antonio 7 months ago, I was the Client Relations manager for Overland Partners.  It was an absolute joy working with such creative and thoughtful minds for 5 ½ years before pivoting into the downtown advocacy world!

What inspires you?
As cliché as it sounds, my daughter.  She is a force to be reckoned with and wise way beyond her 5-years.  She is the reason that I became more involved in our city, and the reason I strive every day to make it that much better.
